Biography

Sunil S. Raikar, MD, is an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine. A physician-scientist, Dr. Raikar is a member of both the Cell and Gene Therapy Program and the Leukemia-Lymphoma Program at the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorder Center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta/Emory University.

Education

Dr. Raikar earned his MD from Saint Louis University School of Medicine in Saint Louis, Missouri where he also completed his residency in pediatrics. He completed his post-doctoral training with a fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Raikar is also a member of the Discovery and Developmental Therapeutics Research Program at Winship Cancer Institute. He holds memberships with multiple professional organizations including American Society for Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, Children's Oncology Group, American Society of Hematology and American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy.

Research

The overall goal of Dr Raikar’s research program is to develop novel therapeutics for pediatric blood cancers through (i) development of innovative cellular immunotherapies utilizing chimeric antigen receptors, (ii) production of novel recombinant protein-based therapeutics such as L-asparaginase and (iii) identifying new therapeutic targets in rare leukemias utilizing advanced bioinformatic tools. The specific diseases his laboratory investigates include acute lymphoblastic leukemia, acute myeloid leukemia and mixed phenotype acute leukemia.
