Biography
Michael Scheurer, PhD, MPH, FACE, is a professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine. A molecular epidemiologist, Dr. Scheurer serves as co-leader of the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University where he coordinates and promotes all of the cancer prevention and control-related research activities. He also serves as co-director of Research and Epidemiology for Adolescent and Child Health (REACH) Center.
Education
Dr. Scheurer earned his PhD in epidemiology from University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. He holds a Master of Public Health in epidemilogy from University of Alabama at Birmingham. He completed his postydoctoral training at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Research
Dr. Scheurer’s research focuses on integrating novel -omics strategies in population-based cancer studies to investigate immunogenetic interactions, pharmacogenetic influences on treatment outcomes, molecular mechanisms of virus-associated malignancies and the biological determinants of cancer health disparities, with a particular emphasis on rare pediatric and adult cancers through multi-institutional consortia and biobanking initiatives.
