Research
Dr. Sheehan’s laboratory uses genomics to unravel the mechanisms of globin switching and the transition from acute to chronic pain in sickle cell disease to develop new agents to treat people with sickle cell disease. The Sheehan lab also develops biomarkers based on red cell function, using oxygen gradient ektacytometry, adhesive microfluidics, and dense cells as biomarkers for use in clinical trials of novel pharmaceutical agents and to assess curative intent of cell-based therapies.
