Research
Dr. Traynelis’ studies the basic mechanisms underlying excitatory synaptic transmission. His main focus has been on the postsynaptic glutamate receptor, which are ligand-gated ion channels that catalyze the transmembrane flux of cations in response to activation by the neurotransmitter glutamate. Ongoing experiments use electrophysiological approaches and molecular techniques to probe in detail the nature of glutamate receptor structure and function.
Publications
Dr. Traynelis is an author on over 200 peer-reviewed publications and is co-inventor on 7 US patents. He is former editor-in-chief of Molecular Pharmacology.
