Jean Welsh, PhD, MPH, RN is an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Welsh is a member of the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.
Education
Dr. Welsh earned a Master of Public Health in Community Health Education from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. She then pursued a PhD in Nutrition Science at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Following her doctoral studies, Dr. Welsh completed an Epidemic Intelligence Service Fellowship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, focusing on Applied Nutrition Research. She later continued her academic journey at Emory University, where she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Nutrition and Health Research.

Research
The goal of Dr. Welsh's research is increase the understanding of the role of childrens diets, particularly beverage intake patterns, on obesity and cardiovascular disease risk. Her current studies focus on identifying and modifying the risks associated with added sugar and sugar-sweetened beverages consumption.
