Proton therapy is an extremely precise form of radiation treatment.

Proton therapy utilizes positively charged subatomic particles to target and “paint” the radiation to match the size, shape, and depth of a target. Unlike traditional radiation, protons deliver no radiation beyond the target, sparing healthy tissues and organs and potentially reducing or avoiding the short- and long-term side effects of radiation, letting you resume your life sooner.

Advanced Technology

Emory Proton Therapy Center uses intensity-modulated pencil-beam scanning technology to shape the radiation to match the target, making it ideal for irregularly shaped tumors or those near sensitive areas. Each treatment room is outfitted with the latest technology, and the center utilizes advanced imaging techniques including MRI and cone-beam CT to more precisely localize tumors, align treatment, and monitor response.

Complete Cancer Therapy

As one of 36 proton centers in the country—and the only proton center in Georgia—our center is at the forefront of cancer research, innovation, and discovery. Our radiation oncologists, renowned disease-site specialists from Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, an NCI-designated cancer center, have the expertise and experience to determine the appropriate use of this advanced technology as part of a complete, personalized treatment plan.
