Arts in Health Program

To better aid our patients with the help of our caregivers, we have organized art and music therapy programs for patients, their families and the entire Winship community.

Healing Power of Art and Music

At Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, we are committed to promoting healing for our patients' overall health and personal well-being.

Caregivers can support patients and their families in utilizing free self-expression through various creative mediums as a form of psychotherapy. Research indicates that engaging in creative activities can enhance a patient's:

  • Mental health
  • Emotional well-being
  • Management of stress and anxiety
  • Confidence
  • Physiological responses to traditional treatment
  • Sense of safety in exploring and expressing thoughts and emotions

Our Arts in Health Program at Winship aims to offer patients diverse experiences, including participatory and environmental arts. Whether they are involved in painting, jewelry making, drawing, writing or enjoying musical performances, art exhibits and visual demonstrations, patients have access to a range of activities that enrich their treatment experience.

Furthermore, we have volunteer musicians who perform in our lobbies and waiting rooms, adding another layer of therapeutic support.

Become an Arts in Health Volunteer

Are you an artist or a musician? Are you creative? Volunteer to share your talent with patients, family members and caregivers at Winship in our Arts in Health therapy program.

All volunteers are required to volunteer between 4-8 hours a month. Additionally, they must meet the same requirements as our clinic volunteers.
