The AACR Annual Meeting brings together cancer researchers to address emerging challenges and present new findings in basic, translational, clinical, prevention and population research. Founded in 1907 by 11 physicians and scientists, AACR has grown to more than 58,000 members and is the first and largest cancer research organization dedicated to accelerating progress against cancer.
Rafi Ahmed, PhD
During the meeting’s opening ceremony, AACR will recognize its newly elected 2025 class of fellows, including Winship researcher Rafi Ahmed, PhD. Ahmed was selected for his groundbreaking contributions to immunology, particularly his work defining the regulation of T-cell memory and exhaustion, which helped pave the way for PD-1 pathway blockade therapies—a transformative approach to cancer treatment. These therapies work by releasing the immune system’s natural “brakes,” enabling T cells to more effectively recognize and attack cancer cells.
