Jaydev P. Desai, PhD, MA, is a BME Distinguished Faculty Fellow in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory University. Dr. Desai is a member of the Discovery and Developmental Therapeutics Research Program at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
Education
Dr. Desai received his MA in mathematics, and MS and PhD in mechanical engineering and applied mechanics respectively, all from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University.

Dr. Desai has been named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for his contributions to medical and swarm robotics. He's also a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).
Research
Dr. Desai's research interests are primarily in the area of image-guided surgical robotics, rehabilitation robotics, cancer diagnosis at the micro-scale and grasping.
Dr. Desai has more than 160 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He is the founding editor-in-chief of the Journal of Medical Robotics Research and editor-in-chief of the Encyclopedia of Medical Robotics.

Awards
Dr. Desai is a recipient of several grants from the National Institutes of Health, an National Science Foundation CAREER award, and was also the lead inventor on the Outstanding Invention of 2007 in the Physical Science Category at University of Maryland, College Park. He is also the recipient of the Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award.
