Biography

Eric S. Elder, PhD, is an associate professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine. His research in the area of stereotactic rotational therapy for areas outside of the brain, combined with his clinical skills and hardware background, complements the clinical image-guided radiation therapy program at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Elder is also a member of the Discovery and Developmental Therapeutics Research Program, developing novel therapeutic approaches for the detection and treatment of cancer at Winship.

Education

Dr. Elder received his PhD and MS from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. He received his BS from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. He received his certification from the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiological Physics in 1997.

Research

Dr. Elder's research interests are in computational microdosimetry, new treatment planning algorithms and novel delivery methods. He is involved in computational dosimetry projects with Georgia Tech's Nuclear Engineering Department. He spends 50% of spring semester teaching on the Georgia Tech campus in the Medical Physics program.
