R. Donald Harvey, PharmD, is a professor in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology with a joint appointment in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at Emory University School of Medicine. A board-certified oncology pharmacist, Dr. Harvey serves as vice president of clinical research and executive director of Woodruff Industry Sponsored Clinical Trials at the Woodruff Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Harvey previously served as director of Winship Cancer Institute's Phase I Clinical Trials Unit and played a key role in the unit's opening in 2009 and subsequent expansion in 2018. He also served as medical director of Winship's Clinical Trials Office, where he worked to ensure the quality and compliance of clinical research practices at all Winship locations.
Dr. Harvey is a member of the Discovery and Developmental Therapeutics Research Program at Winship Cancer Institute. He has established an active clinical pharmacology research program in cancer at Emory with the goal of using pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic and other tools to improve individualization of therapy and clinical outcomes. An active principal and co-investigator on multiple trials, he also consults on experimental design of preclinical and clinical studies with a focus on optimizing correlative measures. Specific areas of research interest include agent tolerability and disposition in renal and hepatic impairment, effects of novel immunotherapeutics on hepatic metabolism, and use of therapeutic drug monitoring for anticancer agents.
Education
Dr. Harvey obtained his BS Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). He completed subsequent training at the University of Kentucky Medical Center and School of Pharmacy and specialized in Hematology/Oncology at UNC, where he was on staff and faculty for 8 years prior to coming to Grady Hospital in Atlanta where he served as a clinical specialist in hematology and oncology and director of the hematology and oncology residency program.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, a Fellow of the Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association and a Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He is a past president of the Hematology and Oncology Pharmacy Association, an international professional organization.
Research
Dr. Harvey's research interests include the clinical application of pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic and pharmacogenomic data to patient care.
