Oncology Nurse Training

Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University hosts an oncology nursing symposium annually. The conference provides nurses and health professionals with practical strategies and tools to improve patient outcomes and advance professional goals. This course offers an opportunity to earn up to 12 contact hours through Emory Nursing Professional Development Center (ENPDC) and is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Winship Nursing Grand Rounds are held once a quarter. Although topics are often in relation to oncology, the drive for agenda selection is much more global, such as new future directions of and legislative actions affecting healthcare. The course offers 1.0 contact hour through Emory Nursing Professional Development Center, accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

The Winship Oncology Nurse Residency Program is a comprehensive, evidence-based training program for novice oncology nurses to equip them with the skills and knowledge to provide exceptional care to patients and their families facing cancer. The program strives to enhance the expertise, critical thinking, and contributions of oncology nurses, ultimately improving the health outcomes and care experience for patients.

The program is intended for nurses new to oncology and utilizes online modules from the Oncology Nursing Society alongside 32 hours of in-person classes and skills practice. Participants attend five classes spread over one year, with a debriefing lunch at six months of hire. New cohorts begin three times a year, ensuring accessibility for new participants. The final class focuses on professional development in oncology nursing and includes a celebration breakfast.

The Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) review course is offered by Winship’s Nursing Professional Development team for nurses interested in attaining certification in oncology nursing. This course provides an overview of the major content areas of the OCN test blueprint and strategies for preparing and taking the oncology nursing certification examination. The course offers contact hours through Emory Healthcare, an approved provider unit of continuing nursing education by the Georgia Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
