Maria C. Russell, MD

Background

A board certified surgical oncologist, Maria C. Russell, MD, specializes in the surgical management of complex gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary malignancies, as well as melanoma and sarcoma. As a minimally invasive, robotic and open surgeon, Dr. Russell is able to tailor her approch to surgery for the individual patient and disese process. Additionally, she is an expert in Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) for advanced stage malignancies. Her passion is working with gastroenterologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and pathologists to develop individual treatment plans for each of her patients.

Dr. Russell is a professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology of the Department of Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine. She serves as Chief Quality Officer for Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, working collaboratively with leadership on tracking and improving patient services and satisfaction as well as focusing on cancer outcomes. She is an active member of the Multidisciplinary Tumor Boards at Emory, as well as the co-chair and chair of the Tumor Boards at Winship Cancer Institute at Emory Midtown and Grady Memorial Hospital. She also serves as the Cancer Liaison Physician for the Commission on Cancer at Grady.
