Life after a cancer diagnosis can be far from ordinary. At Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, we're here to assist our patients and their loved ones as they transition through and beyond their treatment.

Being a Survivor

Survivorship is a broad term that encompasses individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer and are at any stage post-diagnosis. It also includes others affected by the diagnosis, such as friends and family members.

Survivorship at Winship

It's crucial to recognize that recovering and adapting to life after a cancer diagnosis takes time. Returning to a previous version of "normal" may not happen immediately, and determining the new normal may require some adjustment.

At Winship, we understand that life after a cancer diagnosis can be anything but ordinary. That's why we're proud to offer various resources that provide education, social support and care to all Winship patients, their caregivers and families as they transition into post-treatment life.

Your Care as a Survivor

Every cancer survivor has unique needs. We encourage you to discuss these with your cancer care team at any time.

Some aspects of your care during and after treatment include:

  • Integrated follow-up care with your Winship doctors
  • A visit with your social worker and a brief symptom assessment
  • Treatment summary
  • Copy of your pathology report
  • Personalized survivorship care plan

We offer you a variety of resources including assistance with:

  • Physical issues
  • Emotional well-being
  • Relationships
  • Diet, nutrition and exercise
  • Finances and careers
  • Follow up care

If you received cancer treatment before the age of 21, and you are 21 or older, please contact our nurse coordinator, Mary Batcha, RN, at 404-778-3473 or via email to request an appointment.

If your child received cancer treatment and is under the age of 21, please contact the Cancer Survivor Program at the Aflac Cancer Center at 404-785-1717 or via email to request an appointment.

The Young Adult Cancer Survivorship Program is located at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University (Clifton campus), 1365-C Clifton Road NE (tunnel level), Atlanta, GA 30322.
