Are you or your loved one in need of prostate cancer screening? We’re here to help.

Prostate cancer is among the most common cancers in men in the United States. It often has no symptoms in its early stages, which is why screening is so important. Certain men face higher risk, including Black men and those with a first-degree family history of prostate cancer, such as a brother, father, or son. Screening helps detect cancer earlier, when it is most treatable and curable.

Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, through generous support from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation and in collaboration with Mount Sinai Health System, is bringing complimentary mobile prostate cancer screening directly to communities across Georgia. This program is designed to increase early detection and help reduce longstanding disparities in prostate cancer.

Screenings are provided on our mobile unit by experienced clinical staff. If further care is needed, patients will have access to Winship’s expert prostate cancer care team and Emory Healthcare’s primary care team.

What to expect during screening?

On the mobile unit, you’ll receive a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test — a standard blood draw that measures PSA levels in the blood. PSA is a protein made by cells in the prostate gland. Elevated PSA may be a sign of prostate cancer or other prostate conditions.

Typically, results are available on-site within one hour. Otherwise, they will be shared confidentially through MyChart, Emory Healthcare’s electronic patient portal, or by phone in three to five days. If you don’t have access to a digital device, results will be mailed to you.

If follow-up care is needed, our team will help guide you to the appropriate next steps.

Prostate cancer signs and symptoms

While screening looks for cancer before symptoms appear, it is still important to be aware of possible signs that could indicate prostate problems. Many of these symptoms can also be caused by non-cancerous conditions, and they should be discussed with your doctor.

Common symptoms include:

  • Difficulty urinating
  • Blood in the urine or semen
  • Frequent urination (mostly at night)
  • Burning sensation when urinating
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Pain in the lower back, pelvis, stomach or hips
  • Weakness in the legs
  • Fatigue
