The annual Winship Scientific Symposium highlights the outstanding research of Winship investigators, deepens understanding of key topics and fosters collaboration. Leading researchers from Emory’s Winship Cancer Institute and top universities across Georgia come together to explore groundbreaking advancements in cancer care. The symposium serves as a platform for interdisciplinary collaboration, sharing innovative findings and identifying opportunities for joint projects. By uniting the brightest minds in the state, the event aims to accelerate cancer discovery, improve patient outcomes and strengthen Georgia’s position as a global leader in cancer research.

Each summer, Winship hosts the Debates and Didactics in Hematology and Oncology Conference (DDHO). The conference features a comprehensive review into mechanisms of disease and treatments for patients with cancer or blood disorders. Interactive debates and didactic lectures on controversial topics and standards of care offer attendees the opportunity to hear how science supports each point of view. Presentations and discussions focus on current basic and clinical research including the use of molecular targeted therapy, immunotherapies and other novel therapeutic approaches.

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Partners for Advancing Clinical Education (PACE) and Bio Ascend LLC. PACE is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The Hematology and Oncology Updates for Advanced Practice Providers hosted by Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University is a two-day continuing education program designed to provide advanced practice providers with the latest, evidence-based strategies to optimize care and outcomes for patients with cancer. This conference is intended for advanced practice providers, including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, nurses, and APP students.

The 4th Annual Hematology and Oncology Updates for the Advanced Practice Provider was held on September 12-13, 2025 at the Emory Conference Center Hotel. Future conference date is to be determined.

The Updates in the Management of Head and Neck Cancer Symposium explores the current treatment paradigms for the multidisciplinary treatment of head and neck cancer. Recent data on this topic will be covered to appraise the audience of these rapidly evolving findings, and expert faculty will instruct participants on the optimal application of these data through a series of panel discussions, case presentations and audience response input.

This activity is intended for medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, dentists and other healthcare professionals who provide medical care for patients with head and neck cancer.

Our annual Winship Oncology Nursing Symposium is a comprehensive oncology nursing education program drawing participants from throughout the United States and internationally. The meeting will provide nurses and health professionals with practical strategies and tools to improve patient outcomes and advance professional goals. This course offers attendees the opportunity to earn up to 12 contact hours through Emory Nursing Professional Development Center (ENPDC) and is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Winship's annual Gastrointestinal Cancer Symposium provides expert review of the latest procedures, technology, and medical treatments for patients with gastrointestinal cancer. National guidelines are also reviewed. The symposium holds case-based discussions incorporating multi-disciplinary care approaches, novel, recently FDA-approved drugs, and clinical trial eligibility.

The Winship Cancer Institute Melanoma and Cutaneous Oncology Symposium serves as a valuable forum for the presentation and discussion of newly available data. Participants will be provided with an update on practice-changing data in a practical and interactive format, fostering discussion and impacting clinical outcomes for patients with melanoma and other cutaneous malignancies.

Community hematologists and oncologists generally receive little formal education on the diagnosis and management of hemostatic and thrombotic disorders. As a result, many patients with bleeding disorders have a delayed diagnosis that leads to morbidity and mortality. Clinical Practice Updates in Hemostasis and Thrombosis is designed to provide practitioners with information on the diagnosis and management of inherited and acquired hemostatic and thrombotic disorders along with new medication updates. Diagnostic and therapeutic approaches will be explored via interactive case discussions.

The Updates in the Management of Thyroid Cancer Virtual Symposium will provide practitioners with information regarding nationally acceptable standards for the treatment of thyroid cancer. Participants will gain current knowledge regarding the best practices for thyroid cancer treatment that meets acceptable national standards and guideline changes as implemented by the American Thyroid Association. This activity is intended for otolaryngologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, and other healthcare professionals who provide medical care for patients with thyroid cancer.
