Cancer Prevention and Control Discoveries and Accomplishments

Recent program highlights showing the impact of the program include achievements in:

• Studying studying populations at high risk of breast cancer in Georgia
• Implementing cancer prevention initiatives in rural Georgia
• Enhancing lifelong care for cancer survivors
• Investigating populations at high risk of HIV-positive cancer in Georgia

Our strategy is to contribute transformational discoveries that ultimately translate to the reduction of the cancer burden in Georgia. We envision expanding community outreach to disseminate research findings and expanded community engagement to inform research priorities. Our future focus aims to:

• Accelerate research and community engagement to reduce the incidence of cancer among high risk groups.
• Enhance the implementation of research discoveries in the state.
• Continue building bidirectional communications with the community.
• Promote team science and forge collaborations within and beyond Winship and Emory to maximally advance cancer research.

Our long-term goal is to influence public health polices and clinical practice through investigator-initiated and community-informed research, in ways that reduce the incidence of cancer and reduce the cancer burden among patients and survivors in Georgia.
